Abstract

The Module ”Immunity and vaccination: useful information for parents” provides theoretical and practical aspects related to vaccines, vaccination, and immunity. In the first part of the module, participants will understand the importance of vaccination as an effective method for preventing infectious diseases, with examples of diseases that have been eradicated or significantly reduced due to vaccination, such as smallpox and polio. Additionally, the concepts of individual immunity and herd immunity are explained, showing how vaccination protects not only the individual but also the community, reducing the spread of diseases and protecting unvaccinated individuals, such as those with health issues. In the second part, parents will learn about vaccination coverage, which refers to the percentage of people vaccinated in a community and will discuss the impact of achieving optimal vaccination coverage, which can lead to the eradication of diseases and the drastic reduction of morbidity. The module also includes practical activities, such as identifying diseases that can be prevented through vaccination. The educator will also present myths about vaccines, such as concerns about side effects or the idea that vaccines could cause infections, demonstrating that vaccines are safe and effective, with minor and rare side effects.

This module is part of the materials dedicated to the training of parental educators.
