Abstract

The module ”Understanding gender equality” introduces parents to the theme of gender equality, combining theoretical foundations with practical activities. It explores concepts like equality versus parity, equality versus equity, and the structural causes of inequality and discrimination. Parents are guided to identify and challenge gender stereotypes through brainstorming, storytelling, and role-playing activities such as "The Farmer and His Wife" or "In the Family." The content highlights how gender roles are socially constructed and examines how individual gender narratives shape community stories. The module also addresses the disproportionate effects of the COVID-19 pandemic based on gender and provides insights into gender equality in Romania. It equips parents with practical advice to empower their children, fostering awareness and skills to promote inclusivity at home and in society. The module emphasizes the importance of ensuring equal opportunities in education and the labor market by addressing barriers such as unequal access to resources or biases within the curriculum. Through examples and practical exercises, participants learn to recognize and counteract gender stereotypes, contributing to a more inclusive society. The role of communities and families in promoting gender equality values is also underlined.

This module is part of the materials dedicated to the training of parental educators.
