Abstract

The session "How to take a positive approach to children's behaviour" introduces approaches that differ from traditional methods of disciplining children. Discipline teaches children our values and rules and why they matter. One of the goals of discipline is to help children learn what they need to succeed in society.

In the first part of this session, parents will explore methods for providing positive attention, encouraging positive behavior, and preventing unwanted behavior. The second part will focus on how to navigate moments when a child displays difficult behavior and the effects of physical punishment and penalties on a child's development. At the end of the session, the parental educator will ask parents to consult the List for Encouraging Positive Behavior in the Parent's Brochure. Before the next session, parents will be encouraged to practice Positive Encouragement Behavior at least once with each child, regardless of age, once with their partner and/or a colleague (if appropriate), and at least once with themselves.

This module is part of the materials dedicated to the training of parental educators.
